Predicted Snow Impacts Various Parts of Missouri Roadways

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, there were five car crash fatalities over the weekend. Local law enforcement also worked fatal crashes in addition to the MSHP. The northern portion of the state received quite a bit more snow than did the greater St. Louis area. If you watched any news at all this weekend, you are aware of the multi-car pile-up on Interstate 70, westbound at the 29.1 mile marker. There were 47 vehicles involved that were either hit, ran off the road or were damaged. There were at least 15 vehicles, including two semi-trucks that crashed resulting in the death of a 73 year old woman of Platte City, Missouri. The Platte City woman was a restrained passenger in a vehicle with a seriously injured 74 year-old man, also of Platte City, MO. He was a restrained driver as well and was seriously injured.

According to the MSHP report, the fatality in the pile-up occurred when a tractor trailer lost control of the semi on the snow covered roadway and traveled off the left side of the road, before coming to rest partially blocking the road. The fatally injured couple in a Ford Escape SUV struck the rear of the semi partially blocking the roadway Then, a Dodge Ram struck the passenger side of the Escape. Multiple other vehicles struck one another and others went into the ditch.

Witnesses to this horrendous crash and video recordings were not focused on the initial crash but the ensuing mayhem. Questions have been volleyed as to whether other drivers were traveling too fast for weather conditions and inability to see due to weather. How did so many cars fail to slow down resulting in many cars piling up on the interstate or going into the ditch?

Injured in a Motor Vehicle Crash?

If you have been injured in a motor vehicle crash, you will need legal help. If you are not hurt, insurance companies are pretty good at taking care of property damage. It is far easier to agree upon the price of a bumper of a Mazda than the price of your injured neck. Property is replaceable, but health is far more complicated.
