The Easter holiday weekend was dangerous on the roadways. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, there were a high number of motor vehicle crashes beginning Thursday evening through Easter Sunday night and early morning.
There were 10 motor vehicle crashes worked by the MSHP alone that occurred after 6 p.m. on Friday. Eight of those crashes involved serious injuries of one or more people. Two people were killed in a Marshall, Missouri crash around 6:30 p.m. at U.S. 65 and College.
According to the MSHP report, the driver of a 2016 Ford failed to yield to a 2012 Harley Davidson resulting in a truck-motorcycle crash. The motorcycle struck the right rear corner panel of the vehicle. Both of the motorcycle riders were killed, a 37 year-old woman and a 38 year-old man, both of Marshall, Missouri.
At least seven people were seriously injured in seven different motor vehicle crashes on Saturday. Five people were killed in four crashes.
Two people were killed when their car left the roadway while the driver was actively fleeing from Christian County Deputies at approximately 1:55 a.m. The vehicle then struck a tree, became airborne, struck a second tree and came to rest on the ground. The driver, a 34 year-old Republic, Missouri man and a 29 year-old woman from unknown city were both ejected. The pair were in a Jeep Cherokee northbound on Route ZZ south of Republic, Missouri.
Law enforcement stated they were doing a routine check of the Delaware Town Access Conservation area, an area near the James River that is closed at night. When the vehicle left the area, the deputy attempted to pull the vehicle. After the crash, it was determined that the vehicle had been stolen.
At approximately 3:45 p.m. a Harley Davidson failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the right side of the road and overturned. The motorcycle crash resulted in the death of a 68 year-old Springfield, Missouri man.
A 2004 GMC Envoy was westbound on US160 and struck a pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian, a 48 year-old Branson, Missouri man died at the scene. It occurred at approximately 8:50 p.m.
A 2003 Hyundai Sonata struck a pedestrian and then a stranded GMC Sierra on I-270 South of I-44. The Sierra then struck the second pedestrian. The first pedestrian, a 59 year-old Arnold man was killed at the scene and a 32 year-old man was seriously injured. The driver of the Hyundai was listed as a moderately injured.
Five people were listed as seriously injured in four vehicle collisions on Sunday. The Missouri State Highway Patrol worked 19 total vehicle incidents on Easter Sunday. Fortunately, there were no fatalities listed by the Highway Patrol for Sunday.
A 56 year-old St. Joseph, Missouri woman was seriously injured when her Jeep Liberty crossed the center of the roadway and travelled off the north side of the roadway, went airborne, then struck an embankment and traffic sign at approximately 8:18 a.m.
Around 1 p.m. a Buick LeSabre left the right side of the roadway and struck a fence and tree. The two occupants, a 77 year old-driver of Houston, Missouri and a 62 year-old female Houston, Missouri passenger were both seriously injured.
Around 1:30 p.m., a Ford Escort crossed the center line of the roadway of Route M and struck a Chevrolet C1500 head-on. The 48 year-old Dittmer, Missouri driver of the Ford was seriously injured and the 22 year-old Washington, Missouri woman was listed with minor injuries. The crash took place south of St. Louis Rock Road in Franklin County.
Four young people were killed Friday morning and two more seriously injured in a Riverside Road crash in St. Joseph, Missouri, midday on Friday. According to reports, two vehicles were involved in the crash and one vehicle with six occupants was an allegedly stolen. Local authorities responded to this crash.
The driver of that vehicle is reported as a survivor of the crash. The four fatally injured victims were between the ages of 15-17. The only details offered by officers include the fact that the alleged stolen vehicle was traveling northbound and the other vehicle was traveling southbound. The crash reportedly took place on Riverside Road and Cook Road in St. Joseph, Missouri.
