Sober Transportation Needs to Be on Every Party List

In 2015, 162 people were killed and 576 seriously injured in Missouri crashes that involved at least one substance-impaired driver according to the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety. The most negligent thing about drunk driving crashes is that they are completely preventable.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration offers a new SaferRide Mobile app. The app helps people who have been drinking get a safe ride home by allowing users to call a taxi or a friend. The app identifies the location so they can be picked up.

Sunday Night DUI Stops

While DUI stops are not generally announced in advance, it would make a lot of sense for there to be some DUI stops in the greater St. Louis metro area. Unlike holiday weekends, most people have to work on Monday thus many will plan on driving home after the Super Bowl festivities. If you are driving Sunday evening, you will want to be extra cautious and practice defensive driving. Meaning, slow down and assume another car is going to stop at a four-way stop or a light.

One of the reasons drunk driving is so infuriating to all of us is that drunk driving breaks the trust that exists among drivers. Some mutual trust is required in society where we share roadways and facilities–each of us have to have some trust in others to follow the rules. Likewise, we must follow the rules to keep others safe. A betrayal of that trust includes climbing behind the wheel intoxicated.

Plan Your Party

An essential part of your Super Bowl party is planning how you will get to and from the party. If you are hosting guests, you will want to be very conscious of people that leave your party and drive. No one likes to be the person that takes a friend’s keys away, but it can be the difference in keeping or losing that friend if they are driving drunk.

Plan your designated driver ahead of time and enjoy the Super Bowl festivities.

If you are injured in a motor vehicle crash and sustain injuries, you will need legal representation. If alcohol is a factor, you will want to retain an attorney as soon as possible. Just because the driver who hits you is drunk, it does not mean you have a “cut and dry” case. If injured, you will need legal representation to get the maximum compensation you will need to cover medical bills, lost wages and other expenses.
