One crash is too many, but the number of serious injury and fatal crashes has been high over this last weekend in Jefferson County.
Two House Springs men were killed Thursday in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 30 at Dillon Road in High Ridge according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Around 2:40 p.m., a 23 year-old man was driving a Ford Ranger eastbound on Highway 30 and while trying to change lanes, the left rear of the pickup struck the right front of another pickup.
After the collision, the Ranger traveled across the grass median and overturned and while overturned, traveled into the path and struck a westbound Plymouth Prowler.
A 20 year-old Imperial motorcyclist was injured Saturday afternoon on Main Street at Interstate 55 in Imperial. The MSHP reported that a 30 year-old Fenton man was driving a GMC Envoy east on Main Street and was approaching Interstate 55 around 3 p.m. when he was distracted and failed to notice traffic stopped ahead. He ran into a Yamaha 29 year-old motorcyclist seriously injuring him when he was thrown from the motorcycle and into the rear window of a Mazda. The GMC drove over the motorcycle and hit the Mazda. The GMC and the motorcycle caught on fire.
Five people were injured in a three car pile-up on Sunday afternoon on Highway A, west of Festus. The MSHP reported a 22 year-old Arnold woman was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt west on Highway A east of Pebble Creek Estates when she failed to stop for two vehicles that were stopped. She struck the rear of a Nissan Altima driven by a 39 year-old Dittmer woman who then struck the rear of a Chevrolet 3500 pickup driven by a 39 year-old Arnold man.
The initial driver sustained minor injuries but a passenger in her vehicle, a 26 year-old Arnold man sustained moderate injures. As well, the Nissan driver and two Nissan passengers both of St. Louis were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
A 34 year-old Pevely woman was hurt in a two-vehicle accident around 6 p.m. on Sunday on Highway Z at Persimmon Point Drive in the Hillsboro area. The Pevely woman was driving a Pontiacc G6 west on Hwy Z when the a St. Charles driver of an eastbound pickup attempted to make a left turn onto Persimmon Point Drive pulling into the path of the Pontiac. The woman sustained moderate injuries
A 30 year-old Arnold man was killed Sunday in a crash on Interstate 55 near Herculaneum after reportedly traveling at speeds more than 150 mph and hitting the median cable barrier according to the MSHP. The crash occurred on southbound I-55 near the 178 mile marker, just south of the Herculaneum exit. Two Jefferson County deputies reporting seeing the motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to stop him. According to the MSHP, the motorcyclist attempted to pass a vehicle on the narrow left shoulder of Interstate 55 when he lost control.
Serious crashes in Jefferson County were not isolated to the weekend. Just Tuesday, a 40 year-old Arnold woman lost her life on Hunning Road east of Cinphany Lane. According to the MSHP, the vehicle was traveling too fast for conditions and traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected causing the vehicle to overturn and eject the driver.
Also, a 67 year-old Cadet, Missouri man was driving a Toyota Tacoma on northbound Missouri 21 south of Perkins Road when his vehicle began to slide on wet pavement and traveled into the southbound lane. He overcorrected and traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned. His injuries were listed as minor.
Yesterday, a 29 year-old Festus woman was seriously injured in a truck accident on southbound US 67 just north of Highway 110. The MSHP reported her 2012 Chevrolet Malibu rear-ended a 2017 Freightliner that had slowed in the right lane for upcoming traffic.
